Good to Know

One-way to Fes. Unlike a round-trip Merzouga tour, this route doesn’t return to Marrakech — Day 3 continues north through landscapes you’d never see on the way back. If you’re not ending your trip in Fes, ask us about the round-trip version instead.

Day 01 :

Marrakech to the Dades Valley (approx. 6h drive)

Your driver-guide picks you up from your Marrakech riad or hotel around 08:00. The road climbs into the High Atlas Mountains via the Tizi n'Tichka pass (2,260 m), with stops at traditional Berber villages along the way — your call on timing and pace.

At midday you reach the UNESCO-listed ksar of Ait Ben Haddou — the backdrop for Gladiator, Game of Thrones and Lawrence of Arabia. Explore the maze-like streets and climb to the hilltop for sweeping views, then lunch nearby with the ksar in sight.

In the afternoon you continue via Ouarzazate into the Valley of the Roses around El Kelaa M'Gouna — visit a rose water distillery if you're traveling in spring. You arrive in the Dades Valley, the "Valley of a Thousand Kasbahs," for the night at Hotel Babylon:

Day 02 :

Dades Valley to Erg Chebbi (approx. 4h drive)

After breakfast, drive to Tinghir for a guided walk through its lush oasis — palm groves, irrigation channels and the old Tinghir Kasbah with its Jewish heritage. Continue to Todra Gorge, where cliffs rise 300 metres above a walkable riverbed — plenty of time to walk the canyon and enjoy the river.

You continue southeast through Erfoud (fossils) and Rissani, birthplace of the ruling Alaouite dynasty, before the dunes of Erg Chebbi appear on the horizon by mid-afternoon.

Day 03 :

Merzouga to Fes (approx. 8h drive)

Unlike the Merzouga round-trip route, today takes you through new landscapes: the palm-lined Ziz Valley, then lunch in Midelt, a small town between the Middle and High Atlas.

You continue through the cedar forests of Azrou, home to one of North Africa's last wild populations of Barbary macaques, and pass through Ifrane — the alpine-style "Switzerland of Morocco" — before arriving in Fes around 17:00, with drop-off directly at your hotel or riad.
